Two hundred Toronto seniors no longer need to fly south for a week of sunshine and warmth in the dead of winter. They can now get it on demand, everyday with the recent launch of "Thai Breezes" at The Briton House, where the sand, sights, sounds and sunshine of a beach in Thailand greet them. The key feature of the room is the Soleira Sunlight Simulator, a Swedish-designed therapeutic technology that reproduces the brightness, warmth and benefits of the sun, without the harm of UV rays. The decor of the room reflects the surroundings of the Thai beach backdrop, including sand, beach chairs, tables, umbrellas and a beach bar.
New to Canada, as the first installation in Ontario, the sunlight from the simulator helps to combat depression, stress, and fatigue, giving residents renewed energy and a sense of well-being. The sunlight activates vitamin D3 which strengthens the immune system and helps relieve stiffness and pain in joints and muscles.
Russell Wells, owner and founder of The Briton House, states "We are always looking for new ways to enhance the experience of our residents' and we are thrilled to offer them this incredible new concept of an endless summer, which they can enjoy with their family and friends. The proven benefits of sunlight for seniors, along with the ability for our residents to socialize "on the beach" is truly wonderful. Combined with the beautiful amenities including an indoor English garden, swimming pool, mini putt course and our professional recital hall, the sunspace offers a one-of-a-kind area with the best of the summer's outdoors."
The residents were introduced to this new room last week and have already begun to enjoy the relaxing benefits of Thai Breezes- "I have been to the beach every day this week! I take off my shoes, put my feet in the sand and sit in the sun for half an hour. Then I go to my room and take a nap, it's wonderful." (Dorothy Patterson, resident).
The Soleira Sun Simulator system is presented by SOLEIRA Sun Corp of Montreal, who specialize in indoor, sunlight simulation environments for retirement, hospitality and urban living industries.
